CASA DE DOS

Desde los 12 años soñaba con tener una casa y decorarla (ahi supe que estudiaría arquitectura), me imaginaba mudándome y de una vez poniendo todo en orden y haciendo que todo se viera listo y “perfecto” de la noche a la mañana, cortinas, mobiliario, pintura, todo estaría listo en menos de unos días, peroooo si, todo era un sueño!

La realidad, mi querid@ lector@ es que no fue así, y quizás para much@s de ustedes tampoco lo es, y eso esta bien, pues en todo este trayecto de crear un hogar, he entendido que las cosas tienen su tiempo para los que vivimos bajo un presupuesto limitado. 

Mi ahora esposo y yo apenas nos comprometimos comenzamos a comprar algo de la decoración mensual (decidimos no tener lista de bodas), queríamos aprovechar lo mas que pudiéramos nuestro presupuesto fuera de los electrodomésticos. Fuera una silla, una almohada o simplemente un plato, fuimos comprándolo poco a poco, uno por uno, hasta el día que nos mudamos y nos dimos cuenta que, a pesar de que si necesitábamos todo lo que habíamos comprado, aun faltaban cosas que eran de suma importancia!!! (el cuento de nunca acabar). Así que duramos un mes sin cortinas en las areas comunes, unos 3 meses sin sofa, unos 6 meses sin lamparas solo bombillas y sin abanico de techo (si, lo sé, en pleno caribe), y más de un año con las paredes blancas 00!!! (no se si llorar o si reírme en este punto)

Estoy consciente que mi historia no es lo ultimo, pues hay personas que van mas lejos y cuya necesidad se enfoca en el tema de una vivienda y su ultima preocupación es la decoración, y eso también esta bien, pues lo importante ante todo es que durante ese tiempo este trabajando su familia y creando momentos.

Pero en esperar y saber invertir en las piezas que vas a comprar dependiendo de tu espacio, te crea un sentido de “victoria”, jeje. Ese “yaaaaa lo pude comprar!” que much@s de nosotros conocemos, el aprender a depurar lo que vas a llevar a tu casa y una vez que ya este allí crear toda una historia al rededor de ello y no solo por que “esta de moda”.

Recuerdo el día en que compramos el sofa que queríamos desde hacia un año, fue como un “por fiiiiin!” que habíamos esperado por meses! (y es poco tiempo) pero más recuerdo el día en que lo armamos, wow, cuánto trabajo! pero cuantos recuerdos lindos!!! y es que de eso se trata! No es tener una casa lista en abrir y cerrar de ojos, y si fue tu caso pues excelente es una dicha!, pero si no lo es, no te preocupes, no te desesperes por ver casas “lindas” (si, por que es relativo) en las redes sociales, mas bien inspírate y haz una lista de lo que entiendes caería dentro de tu decoración para luego poder adquirirlo y de calidad, que puedas pasarlo de una generación a otra pues tendrá una historia.

Como decía una influencer dominicana que sigo, si por ahora no lo puedes comprar, no te preocupes, ahorralo y mas adelante podrás adquirirlo o sencillamente empiezas por ir comprando de uno en uno y asi vas completando sin quedarte en la ruina. Y esto es una verdad que aplica para todos los que estamos bajo un presupuesto y para los que no también, pues es cuestión de saber dónde poner el dinero en tu hogar.

Así que mi querid@ lector@, por favor no consideres que decorar es una carrera donde el ganador es el que mas cosas tenga en su casa, pongamos nuestro hogar “bonito” con cosas que valoremos, poco a poco seleccionando piezas que nos motiven y que cuando la veamos nos produzcan un lindo recuerdo pues al final quien tendrá que vivir con ello serás tu, serán ustedes, los demás solo van de visita.

From the age of 12 I dreamed of having a house and decorating it (there I knew I would study architecture), I imagined moving and at once putting everything in order and making everything look ready and «perfect» overnight. Curtains, furniture, paint, everything would be ready in less than a few days, buuuut, it was all a dream!

The reality, my dear reader is that it was not like that, and perhaps for many of you it is not, and that is fine, in this journey of creating a home, I have understood that things have their time to those of us who live under a limited budget.

My now husband and I, from the moment we got engaged, we started to buy some of the decoration monthly (we decided to not have a registry), we wanted to make the most of our budget outside of the appliances. Whether it was a chair, a pillow or just a plate, we bought it little by little, one by one, until the day we moved and we realized that, even though if we needed everything we had bought, there were still things that were most important!!! (the neverending story). So we lasted a month without curtains in the common areas, about 3 months without a sofa, about 6 months without lamps, only light bulbs and without a ceiling fan (yes, I know, in the middle of the Caribbean), and more than a year with pure white walls!!! (I don’t know whether to cry or laugh at this point)

I am aware that my story is not that tragic, because there’s people who go further and whose need is focused on acquiring a house of their own and their last concern is decoration, and that is also fine, because the important thing above all is that during that time you, as a family, are working on creating moments.

But waiting and knowing how to invest in the pieces that you are going to buy depending on your space, creates a sense of «victory», hehe. That “Finally! we could buy it!» that many of us know, learning to curate what you are going to take home and once it is there create a whole story around it and not to buy it only because it is “on trend”.

I remember the day we bought the sofa that we wanted for a year, it was like a “we did it!» that we had waited for months! (and it’s a short time) but I also remember the day we put it together, wow, how much work! but how many beautiful memories!, and that’s what it’s about! It is not having a house ready in the blink of an eye, and if that was your case, then excellent is a joy! But if it is not, don’t worry, don’t despair when you see «beautiful» houses (yes, because it is relative) in social media, rather get inspired and make a list of what you understand would fall within your decoration and then be able to acquire of quality so you can pass it on from one generation to another as it will have a story.

As a Dominican influencer that I follow once said, if you can’t buy it for now, don’t worry, save it and later you can buy it or simply start by buying one by one so you complete it without being ruined. And this is a truth that applies to all of us who are on a budget and for those who are not too, because it is a matter of knowing where to put the money in your home.

So my dear reader, please do not consider that decorating is a race where the winner is the one who has the most things at home, let’s put together our lovely and cozy home with things that we value, little by little, selecting pieces that motivates us and that when we see it will produce a nice memory because in the end who will have to live with it will be you, the others are only visiting.
